Replacing Your Garage Door

Everyone has to replace the garage door of his home sometime. In fact, there are basically two kinds of garage doors, the tilt up and the sectional roll-up. Although the roll up door is quite pricey it offers added features.
Tilts up doors have one panel, which tilts up and slides along the roof of the garage. Their mechanism is simple and they are an example of a basic garage door. They can either be mechanized with a remote control or opened manually.
Sectional roll up doors are made of a lot of horizontal sections. Each section is hinged to the next one. This means the door is quite flexible. The door is mounted on rollers and just rolls up along the roof when opened. Again you can operate this manually or automatically. The advantage of using a sectional roll up door is that it takes up less room and allows more space for your vehicle. It also looks better and will add to the real estate value of your home.
There are two materials garage doors are made of, wood and steel. Although wood can enhance the beauty of your home it is not so durable and in certain areas may attract into your home. It needs to be treated to stop insect infestation. You will need to paint it every 1-2 year and be sure to make sure it is treated for weather resistance. It does take quite a bit more maintenance than steel but its beauty can raise the real estate value of your home. Wood is also cheaper than stainless steel. You may experience some warping with extremes in temperature.
Steel is one of the best metals to use as a garage door. It is durable and resists all weather conditions. Steel requires very low maintenance and lasts for a long time. However, if you do not take care of it when it gets corroded, then it may not last for a very long time. Steel doors are expensive, but are very convenient as garage doors. Aluminium alloy doors are also a good option for garages as they are cheap; however they are not as durable and weather resistant as steel.
Garage doors should always be maintained well, for long lasting effects. The mechanism of the door and its parts should be oiled regularly to prevent break down. Your remote should always have an automatic reverse option to prevent animals and children from getting hurt.
Garage doors enhance the beauty of your architecture and the interior decoration of your home. While choosing your garage door, you should be very practical and opt for the door that synchronizes with the beauty of your home. It should be perfect at serving its purpose.
